Nandini Kannan, born and raised in Southern California, is deeply rooted in her South Asian heritage and driven by a commitment to public health equity. The daughter of immigrants who moved to Los Angeles in 1975, she was introduced to a hereditary South Indian dance form at age seven, which soon evolved into a lifelong passion. Nandini’s education in public health and psychology from her undergraduate studies provides a foundation for her mission to enhance wellness equity and holistic health.
After the loss of her mother, who battled depression and cancer, Nandini’s purpose grew stronger, leading her to New York to pursue a graduate degree in public health. Here, she immersed herself in diverse communities that embraced her, nurturing her commitment to advocacy and empathy. Dance continued to play a pivotal role in her life, serving as a medium for self-expression and healing. It was through exploring various dance forms that Nandini discovered her voice and channeled her experiences into profound artistic and emotional growth.
Nandini embodies love, authenticity, and resilience. She leads with empathy, honesty, and compassion, embracing the human experience’s dualities as a source of strength. Her journey—marked by personal and observed trauma—has reconnected her with spirituality and the core values of her heart. Through movement, music, community engagement, and soulful connections with kindred spirits, Nandini has transformed from a reserved observer into a vibrant advocate unafraid to wear her heart on her sleeve and speak her mind. Her story is one of embracing vulnerability and empowerment, using her art to heal and inspire others on their paths.
